HERE ARE SOME PRIOR STUDENTS QUESTIONS AND MY RESPONSE BUT PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE AN ADDITIONAL INQUIRY.

How many people will be on the course?

Unless otherwise stated all the courses are private and the amount of people attending is up to you. When you make a booking you choose how many people will be in your private group.

Where will I be staying while I study?

When in Bangkok you make your own accommodation arrangements, Photography School Asia is not a tour operator and hotel travel expenses are not included in the price. However we are willing to help you find accommodation for your stay in Bangkok. When on a course out of Bangkok, Jonathan will often book your accommodation for you  after consulting on your budget allowance for  the trip.

How much money for expenses will I need while studying with you?

As a ball park figure you will spend from between $40 to $80 USD a day. If you wish you could give me a fixed travelling and accommodation budget to work with and I make the itinerary plans with that in mind. I have had students wishing to stay 5 star all the way and those with tighter budgets to work with. Both are easily accommodated for.

What equipment will I need, do I have to shoot digital?

No you don’t need to shoot digital, we would do our edits after the film has been developed and via contact sheets and scans. If needed I even have a digital camera set to lend students, so there are no minimum equipment requirements.

Are you doing a photography tours this summer?

I run courses throughout the year most of which are individually created to suit each individual students needs.

My courses are made up of individuals or private groups. I work with each student, assessing their level, needs and their travel wishes too and plan each course individually. One and three day courses are normally based in and around Bangkok. The longer courses allow for extended travel options. Travelling expenses must be met by the student. Normally this means taxi fair, which are cheap in Thailand or the hire of a mini bus and driver at a cost of an extra $50 a day but it needn't be that expensive if we use local transport, you get to see more of things this way too. All extra cost are agreed upon before the tour begins. The reason I don't include travelling expenses in the fees is because of the free nature of the tours. I can never gauge how far students want to travel or what subjects they wish to photograph.

My tours aren't like the normal "photography tours" you see on the internet. I arrange things so the students not only get to see Asia in depth but also facilitate actual learning. Must photography tours are just normal tourist tours with cameras involved.

I have only just took an interest in photography, do I need to be of a certain level before I can study with you?

No, my courses are all individually created, I will assess your individual needs before we begin.

Why do you run private courses and not group tours?

I do run the occasional group lesson 'tour" out of Bangkok, these are clearly stated as group classes on my website. But with  a private course you get as much instruction and guidance as you need. I will pass on tips and advice as you work but also allow you to learn by trial and error too. We will work through each day and edit and assess the pictures in the evening.

Do you have any referees I could contact before I sign up please, I am a single women travelling alone by the way.

Yes, many of my old students are happy to be contacted by people interested in studying with me.

Do you have a set cirucurrum or do you base the course on the student level?

I  base the course on the student's level and also adjust things to suit the speed of their progression. But saying that I always start each student out on the first day with a basic composition class. This not only helps me see the way they work it is also a great exercise for all levels.

Can you tell me a bit more about your Photography Workshop Club please? How many workshops will you hold and what happens if I can't attend one or two because of work?

Saturdays are a full workshop day, so 4 in total.

Tuesday and Thursdays- Photography Clinic, come in with your personal projects pictures and/or specific questions you want to know the answers to. Or come in with personal photography problems to address. I will explain things as best I can and give photography exercises to help the learning process. As to personal projects, I want everyone to work on one or more personal stories or photo ideas throughout the 4 weeks. Improving on it week by week, this will be good for people who want to learn documentary photography, as they can really build up some good features. But it will also work for people working on more abstract artistic ideas.

Monday, Wednesday and Fridays will be mini workshops and also repeats of the Saturday workshop for those who need to catch up.

I will also have time for personal tuition to help those needing it or who have missed classes due to work.

There will be slide shows and group critique each evening and of course on the Saturday workshops too. So we can learn from each other as a group.

Saturdays we will also venture out as a group and on the last Sunday of that month I may have a mini bus trip out of town.
